Timeline of major events in the life of Ferdinand Magellan:
1480 - Magellan was born in Sabrosa, Portugal, his biological parents were Mayor Pedro Ruy de Magalhaes (father) and Alda de Mezquita (mother).
1501 - He joins an expedition of Francisco d' Almeida to India.
1512 - Gets badly wounded in a Portuguese expedition to Morocco. He leaves his service to the expedition after having an argument with a commanding officer.
1513 - Requests permission from King Manuel of Portugal to sail to the Spice Islands (AKA What we call the Maluku Islands or the Moluccas in Indonesia.), but gets rejected after the news of him leaving his previous expedition without prior permission.
1518 - Ferdinand leaves Portugal for Spain
1519 - Magellan manages to convince King Charles I of Spain to support his voyage to the Spice Islands.
Magellan is supported with 5 ships for his expedition including the San Antonio, Conception, Victoria and Santiago and lastly Trinidad which is the ship Magellan will be commanding. Magellan was also provided with 251 men, which was the same crew he took on his first voyage around the world.
1521 - After discovering Philippines during his voyage of circumnavigating the world, he gets involved in a battle with the natives on the Island of Mactan and dies during the battle. The 110 survivors of the battle gets imprisoned by the Portuguese while on their way back to Spain.
1522 - The Victoria reaches Sanlucar de Barrameda in Spain with only 18 survivors of Magellan's crew.
