What did Magellan discover during his voyage?
ANIMALS
During Magellan's voyage of circumnavigation, he discovered a "Camel without humps". This "Camel without humps" animal which he saw could have been an alpaca, llama, guanaco or a vicuña.
Ferdinand Magellan claimed that he spotted "Black gooses" during his voyage as he went past South America. This "Black goose" that Magellan mentioned was apparently a penguin, which today is called the Magellanic Penguin, named after Magellan.
PLACES
The Strait of Magellan was discovered when Ferdinand was on his circumnavigation voyage. Magellan was also the first European to navigate through this passage in 1520, this place is located between the south of South America and the north of Tierra de Fuego.
During the same year in 1520, Magellan became to the first European to step foot on Tierra del Fuego. Magellan named Tierra del Fuego the "Land of Fire" due to the fact that he saw lots of smoke around the area, assuming there was a big fire.
The Magellanic Clouds was seen during Magellan's circumnavigation voyage and was reported by Antonio Pigafetta who accompanied Magellan to his circumnavigation voyage. However, the Magellanic Clouds were first observed by Italian explorers Peter Martyr d'Anghiera and Andrea Corsali. As you may know already, the Magellanic Clouds were shortly named after Ferninand Magellan after the discovery has been reported.
